Schedule for days shooting in London, Alex house and surrey and the preparation we made for it.

We had access to a video camera, Tri-pod, props and actors for saturday 26th and sunday 27th of January. Therefore we had a limited amount of time to ensure we maintained on schedule, achieved continutiy within our filming and to ensure we did not run out of day light as it got dark at 4.30.

Saturday
We went to Alex's house at 10.30am. We filmed the beggining scene with the Assassin begin informed of his next mission and what he will be required to do and the consequences if he didn't. we then filmed the family scene later on in the night as our actors were scheduled to arrive later at night. However a problem we faced was that as it go dark the film did not show continuity and consistency. Therefore, we used white lights to ensure it still looked like it was at night. Alex had also suggested that once we colour grade it. it will be unnoticeable. We also filmed at a car park that day and filmed the assassin driving on the road. We finished filming that day 7pm.

Sunday
We got up and got ready at 6.50Am. We ensured we were up early so that we had a long enough day of filming to give us enough to to also get to London and Surrey too.. As we had two locations to get two that were forty minutes form each-other. We prepared by knowing the locations within Canary Wolf that we were going too. For example Alex and Ellie went up to London Previously to get test shots and i took some test shots too so that we were aware of where we filming and how good the locations looked on camera. When we got London we started by Filming our victim. We had our Assassin actor arrive in London later on in the day at 1pm- as we did not need him until we had finished filming our victim and there would not of been any point in having our actor to be waiting around. We looked over our storyboard before filming so that we fully understood what we were filming this day, and how much time on average we should spend on each shot , depending on the length of it. We filmed our victim coming into Canary Wolf and then we had our Assassin Follow him to the Porsche garagce where the victim worked. The porsche garage was in surrey so we took a 40 minute train to surrey, quickly before the daylight went as we were aware that if it got dark our film would not be consistent and would not have continuity. Once we finished filming in surrey it was dark and so we used the white lights in the porsche garage and in the offices so that the audience could not tell that it had got dark. We then took a train abck to London and from London went home and arrived at home by 9pm.

Photos of me editing 'motive' on Final Cut Pro

This was in media, i stayed in school until 7pm, however- did nto finish it that night and had ot come back the following two nights too. Thsi was due to it taking a long time to render on the computer due to my group using an sd card to film on opposed to a tape.

Match on Action

This is an example of one of my match on action shots. It shows the assasin entering a door from a mid still shot and then swithces to the next frama qucily to show the door opening from inside the room. It is clear ot see the gap between the door and the room in both shots is the same. This ensures then that when i play both shtos together it will smoothly shhow the door opening within two shots  that have been edited together.

This is me editing a close up shot of our assasins face as he slwoly turns to look intot he camera. Here i have previouswly edited this shot with the one before and am playing it back to check that it links to the prevous shot through continuity. For example, the lighting is the same, the assasin looks the same and that the shot type has changed to show vercititly.
This image shows me renedring the clips. I had to render every individual clip due to my group using a sd card opposed ot a tape. Rendering lallows the clips to sync witht he music and to play in good quality  on  the software on the apple computers called 'Final Cut Pro'

This image shows me putting yellow sticky notes on the computer to inform people not to go nto this laptop as it is rendering my footage. Here i have finsiehd my deiting and colour grading, however after colour grading it all has to be rendered again, which took a while to do.

My Contribrution - media evaluation-motive

Media

When in London I took photos of the landscape in London- for example canary wholf. I done this to ensure that I knew what shots would be appropriate for the shooting. Also the shots acted as test shot, therefore I could then see what canary wholf would look like on camera and therefore on film.

I took these London to ensure that we had correct test shots. This was due to Alex and Ellie going to London to get test shots on the previous Friday when I was unable to attend. As a result of this I took my own shots of London at different angles to see what effect they would have on the thriller opening and how they link to a stereotypical thriller. I done this to allow myself to be prepared for shooting and to ensure I knew where we are going to be shooting

Then as a group we would take turns in filming certain parts of the thriller opening a when not filming would be doing another task. For example looking at the story board, knowing what shot was coming next. And if I did not know confirm it with someone in the group. Also another task would be to watch the other group member filming to see if it was up to level 4 standards which was our target level grade we as a group wanted to reach. Therefore, I would say that I think the camera is not straight or talk about rule of thirds. If I was filming and ales or ellie said the camera is not straight then I would make it straight. And next time when filming I would make sure that this error would not be repeated. Additionally, we had to consider our shots and that we were using a variety of different ones. For example, when shooting our victim on the phoneme in a park in canary wholf had done a long distance shot. I then suggested that we also do a close up one to see his reaction. Additionally Alex and ellie were also coming up with alternative shots that we could use at different parts of our thriller opening.

Consistency- this was something we were always considering and ensuring was happening. We want our video to be consistent and to flow from one frame to the next beleivably. For example, if we shot our assassin picking up a gun with his right hand, in the next frame, he would have to have the gun in his right hand otherwise the audience would not beleive the shot and it would become unconvincing. And one of our main attributes to considering our thriller opening successful is if it entices the audiences and they believe it to be believable. Also we made sure to shoot all of our shots in the day for the day scene and we had to shoot over two days as it got dark e calculated around 4.30pm. However on the first night of shooting( the Saturday night\) it  got dark at 4..30 and we had to finish filming a scene as some of the actors were only scheduled to be filmed on the Saturday night therefore ether film was a bit darker. And we came up with a solution to colour grade it lighter when editing, the next day we took into consideration that we must finish shooting before 4.30 as our film will not be constant and the quality would not be as good.

Me Filming.

Filming our Antagonist coming up the escalator- mid shot, showing the upper part of the Antagonists body. The camera remained still.

Closeup shot of the Antagnoist on the phone. From the shoulders to the head. Camera remained still until Antagonsit walked out of the shot.

Filimng the Protagonsit- the assasin on the phone. Close up shot to show his reaction.

Filming the protagonist- close up shot on the phone his  reaction.

My Photos From Media Filming- Location Shots- Ideas for how to use these locations in shots and angles.

I odne htis to allow myself to be prepeared for shooting and to ensure i kneow where we are going to be shooting.
This image is a low angle shot- I took this image to make canary wholf in London- ( one of our main shooting locations) appear powerful and intimidating. The low angle shot does this as it makes the building look even taller. This could be done when filming to show the location to be powerful, intreaging and easily relatable to the location of a typcial thriller opening.

I toook this image of canary wholf- interesting layout- geometric- interesting compostion would look effective on camera.

landscape image of canary wholf- appears powerful - dominating ,builds supsense and mystery- cannot see whats insdie the glass buildings.

interesting layout and compostiion

I took this shot in Surrey in the porshe garage. This mid shot would show the location in detail so that the audicne would know where this scene is and why it may possibly be set here. Antagonist works in Porshe company- expensive - buisness- typical antagonsitin Thriller.

I took this photo- which is called a panorama shot/. This allows me to take a image of canary wholf by walking around with the camera. This idea i thought could be used to show what a pannign shot of this image could look like. From this image it shows that a pan of canray wholf would eb good as the layout of my panorama image is interesting, effective and articulate.
